Hyde900 has selected Abbot Aston to show the Abbey’s story across the centuries. In this context, he appears as a fictional figure presenting anecdotes of the history of the abbey and day-to-day life of the monastery. He also provides the voice-over to tours of the Abbey. Although we've fictionalised Abbot Aston himself, all the anecdotes are based on or inspired by historical events.
This series of short video clips was produced in partnership with the University of Winchester. The first seven tales are based upon William of Wykeham's Injunctions in the Liber Vitae records which have been translated for Hyde900 from the Latin by Alun Parry Jones.
The stories present curious snippets of life at the Abbey - from blue belt fashion trends to mumbling readers and monks who can't keep silent, discover the realities of life as an abbot!
